The smell of football season is in the air. Having season tickets for 8 years, we now understand it is more than just the game, it’s something that brings us closer together. Here are the top five things we love about watching games in Rice-Eccles Stadium:
5. The food - Whether it’s Cowboy Corn dogs, fresh cut fries, luau pork bowls or grilled food in the tailgating lot, there is always delicious food on game day. Top it off with an ice-cold snow cone at the early games in August, or warm up with a hot chocolate in November. Either way, it’s a great experience.
4. The camaraderie - There’s something about wearing red — or black, if it’s the black out game — with a stadium full of people that just brings you together. You may not know your neighbors when the season starts, but you soon find yourself looking forward to hanging out with your 45,000 closest friends.
3. The loyalty - Sure, the Utes have struggled to have a decent season in the PAC-12. And of course we’d always rather walk away with a win. But taking our daughter to the games and eventually teaching all of our future kids to stick with their team through thick and thin gives them a great sense of loyalty that we hope they’ll carry through adulthood. Standing by something you love, even in tough times, is a great life lesson.
2. The academics - One of our favorite things about games is that it gets the kids on a University campus. We’d love it if they pick the U when they grow up, but we’ll understand if they don’t. But we know that they’ll want to go to college, in part because of the great experience they had attending games as a kid. It’s wonderful to walk past all the campus buildings on our way to the games and talk to the kids about what they want to be when they grow up!
1. The family time - This is really what it comes down to. We love spending time as a family, and attending the games gives us a chance to do that. We’re building so many memories as a young family, and it’s great to set aside everything else and just focus on being together. Our love for the Utes helps build our love for one another, and we wouldn’t miss that for anything.
